As the gates opened ANASCAY stood flat-footed and missed the start.  HEZA POCKET ROCKET brushed the running rail about the 500M mark.  HEZA POCKET ROCKET was held up for a run momentarily along the fence at about the 400M mark.

Race NT 2: 0-70 HANDICAP 1400 Metres – 10 Starters:
TICA was scratched from this event after the gelding was found to be sore in the off/side front hoof.  As the gates opened CORRIDOR stood flat-footed and lost ground after jumping.  CORRIDOR was inclined to lay in down the length of the straight.  Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned M ALLEN rider of CORRIDOR in relation to that mares disappointing run.  M ALLEN reported that the mare did not feel right but could not be certain as to where.

On jumping REAL EAGLE and SILENZIOSO came together.  Shortly after jumping REAL EAGLE shifted out bumping DETERMINE.  REAL EAGLE was inclined to race greenly for about the first 500M.

SWEEPING MOVE was a little slow into stride on jumping.  As the gates opened CLEVER CAT jumped a little awkwardly.  Approaching the 600M mark HAPPY SPOT rolled in slightly tightening KINGSTON SEA momentarily onto KIRIKIRISH.  Correct weight was delayed when the rider of the second place-getter H POLAND requested to view the Stewards patrol footage of the 600M mark with a view to protest.  After viewing the patrol footage, the parties concerned were of the opinion that there were no grounds for a protest and correct weight was declared.

SHE’S NO YEMON was a late scratching from this event at 2:12 pm when the rider became indisposed and no other rider was available.  On jumping WHO’S MARY jumped outwards bumping TESTA GOT LUCKY.  As the gates opened ANASCAY was slow away losing ground.  Subsequent to the event, stewards ordered the following alterations to the betting; all monies invested on SHE’S NO YEMON to be refunded and a deduction of 7 cents for the win and a deduction of 7 cents for the place be made.

On jumping DEFECTING PLAYBOY was slow away.  Approaching the 600M mark WHATAREYOUWEARIN had to check slightly of the heels of CUPBOARD, which was taken in by GOLD MAGIC which in turn, was taken in slightly by HURRICANE GAZE.  Subsequent to the event Stewards reminded all riders of their obligations to keep their mounts straight.

As the gates opened DEL DOMINO was slow into stride.  On jumping BRACKEN BLUE jumped inwards bumping CANDLEBELLANDBOOK.  Approaching the first turn BRACKEN BLUE had to ease of the heels of CANDLEBELLANDBOOK when that gelding shifted out slightly.  Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned Mr W SAVAGE trainer of DEL DOMINIO in relation to that geldings unruly behaviour whilst in the mounting yard and on the track.  Mr SAVAGE was advised that whilst no action would be taken today if the gelding was to behave in a similar manner in the future it would be suspended.

Race NT 3: 0-80 HANDICAP 1200 Metres – 4 Starters:
SILENZIOSO was a late scratching from this event after the club veterinarian deemed that the gelding was unfit to start after sustaining an injury to its near/side hind.  Subsequent to the event G LEFOE rider of HURRICANE GAZE was found guilty of AR 137(b) in that he failed to ride his horse out to the end of a race.  G LEFOE was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight 27th September 2008.

Race NT 4: 0-69 HANDICAP 1200 Metres – 9 Starters:
SPEEDY SPUD was a late scratching at the barriers at 3.25 PM on veterinarian’s advice after it reared and fell heavily dislodging its rider.  Subsequent to the event, Stewards ordered the following alterations to the betting; all monies invested on SPEEDY SPUD to be refunded and a deduction of 5 cents for the win and a deduction of 5 cents for the place be made.  On jumping KARESHIM and ACTUATE bumped.   About the 200M mark SHANETTY (G LEFOE) which was racing forward was inclined to hang in resulting in RUBIN RAGER and ATOMISERS riders having to take hold.  Correct weight was delayed when M HART rider of third placegetter ATOMISER lodged an objection against SHANETTY being declared second placegetter alleging interference at about the 200M mark.  After viewing the head on footage of the event after the race V ARNOTT rider of forth placegetter RUBIN RAGER also lodged an objection against SHANETTY alleging interference near the 200M mark.  After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the Stewards patrol footage, Stewards dismissed jockey V ARNOTT'S protest deeming that the amount of pressure placed on her mount did not sufficiently disadvantage her as it was not going forward at the time of the incident.  After taking evidence from parties involved with third placegetter ATOMISER and viewing the Stewards patrol footage, Stewards upheld jockey M HART'S protest deeming that ATOMISER was going forward in-between runners as SHANETTY was and when tightened by RUBIN RAGER on its outside had to take hold for at least 30 metres losing substantial ground.  It was also noted that once in the clear ATOMISER began to make ground again on SHANETTY although too late.  Stewards amended the placing's accordingly.  Stewards took evidence from jockey G LEFOE rider of SHANETTY who stated that the gelding was hanging in severely and he was unable to keep the horse out off the runners on his inside.  Stewards took into account the evidence of G LEFOE and were satisfied that he did endeavour to keep his mount off inside runners and took no further action.

Race NT 5: 0-58 HANDICAP 1000 Metres – 9 Starters:
On jumping SHE'S NO YEMON jumped awkwardly and shifted outwards abruptly.  REAL EAGLE was inclined to lay out slightly rounding the home turn.  Subsequent to the event jockey M HART was found guilty of hitting his horse forward of the shoulder AR 137A(2)a and fined the sum of $100.00.  Stewards also advised jockey M HART that they had concerns over his evidence in that his whip may have been in the vicinity of the horse's head and notification was given in regards to his whip action.

As the gates opened DEL DOMINIO was slow into stride.  Approaching the winning post WAHLYOUR's rider had to take hold when attempting a run in-between HER OPINION on its inside which was shifting out slightly under pressure and GOLD HAWK on its outside which was rolling in slightly.  Subsequent to the event Stewards advised riders involved they must do their upmost to keep their mounts straight in future.  Stewards further advised jockey P JOHNSON to be more mindful when attempting to take a run between runners when close to the finish line.  W Savage trainer of DEL DOMINIO was fined $50.00 for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear (AR 140A).

On jumping ACTUATE knuckled slightly and bumped SOLMAYA on its outside which in turn bumped OLDBLUEEYES.

Race NT 3: 0-58 HANDICAP 1200 Metres – 7 Starters:
On jumping LATIN DESIRE jumped awkwardly bumping OPTIC FIT on its outside.  Correct weight was delayed when P JOHNSON rider of third place getter requested to view the photo between second and third.  After viewing the photo correct weight was declared.  T HUISH rider of CANDLEBELLANDBOOK was found guilty of a charge of unnecessary use of the whip AR137A (1).  The details being that when he rode CANDLEBELLANDBOOK which was out of contention and showing no response in the straight he used his whip in an unnecessary manner.  T HUISH was fined $100.  Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinarian surgeon inspected FITTED and found that gelding to be sore in the off side hind.  Mrs L LEFOE trainer of FITTED was notified that a veterinary certificate must be produced prior to that gelding racing.

DELDOMINIO was a late scratching from this event at 1:35 PM due to jockey T HAMMOND presenting himself on course unfit to ride and no replacement rider was available.  On jumping BRACKEN BLUE jumped inwards bumping GISBORNE LAD onto GEE BEE GEE.  As the gates opened WATCHING TIME jumped a little awkwardly bumping SHE’S NO YEMON on its outside.  Jockey P DENTON dropped his whip at about the 200M mark.  
Subsequent to the event, Stewards fined jockey T HAMMOND $100.00 under AR 81AA in that he presented himself unfit to ride in a race.  Stewards also reminded jockey T HAMMOND of his obligations to notify Stewards at the earliest possible convenience if there is a possibility that he may not be able to fulfil his riding commitments.

After jumping JUTLAND was inclined to race a little erratic for about 200 metres.  Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned trainer N MOODY into the improved performance of his runner TICA.  Mr Moody explained that the gelding had been worked hard since its last start a fortnight ago and also added that last start he missed the jump slightly and became a little non-competitive.  Stewards accepted Mr Moody’s explanation.

SOLMAYA was a late scratching from this event at 1:35 PM due to jockey T HAMMOND presenting himself on course unfit to ride and no replacement rider was available.  Jockey G LEFOE was granted permission by the Stewards to ride HER OPINION 1kg overweight as there were no replacement riders available.  Subsequent to the event jockey G LEFOE was fined $100.00 under AR 120(b) in that he accepted the ride on HER OPINION for which he was found to be overweight.

ANNOYED was a late scratching from this event after being inspected by a veterinarian at 10.30 am and declared unfit for competitive racing after sustaining an injury to its offside hind hock.  As the gates opened DIEU SOLEIL was slow into stride.  MACEDON MOXIE was inclined to lay in over the final 100M.

Race NT 4: 0-69 HANDICAP 1400 Metres – 9 Starters:
On jumping PEPPERY was a little slow into stride.  OUR PRECIOUS GIRL was held up momentarily for a run at the top of the straight.  Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned jockey PAUL DENTON in relation to why he did not ride his mount MAKEMEHAPPY out over the final 200M.  Jockey DENTON explained to Stewards that his mount although travelling ok to the turn felt that something was not right and that it had been hanging throughout the race but hung in a lot harder down the straight preventing him from riding him out.  Stewards accepted jockey DENTON’S explanation.

Prior to the start MAKEMEHAPPY was inspected by the club veterinarian after it was noted to have blood in its mouth and was subsequently cleared to start.  NORTHERN SEA reared on jumping losing little ground.

As the gates opened AKKA DANCER jumped outwards bumping WHO’S MARY which was a little slow into stride onto BLEQ which in turn bumped CENTURY HILL onto WAHLYOUR.  Approaching the 900M mark FITTED which was racing forward out wide began to roll in tightening STAR SIGNS onto BLEQ which was also tightened momentarily onto CENTURY HILL on its inside subsequently causing STAR SIGNS rider B HOPPO to take hold and check his mount and losing his position.  WAHLYOUR was inclined to lay in down the length of the straight under pressure.  Subsequent to the event Stewards viewed the patrol footage and considered evidence given by all riders involved in the incident at about the 900M mark.  Subsequently jockey G LEFOE rider of FITTED was found guilty of a charge under AR 137(a) in that approaching the 900M mark he allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of STAR SIGNS causing that horse to be checked and lose ground.  Jockey G LEFOE’S license to ride in races was suspended commencing midnight the 31 May up until and including the 14 June 2008.

Race NT 4: 0-58 HANDICAP (2) 1200 Metres - 9 runners:
As the gates opened FORTUNE STRIKER jumped outwards bumping NORTHERN SEA and then bumping MAXSTURDY on its inside.  GISBORNE LAD jumped away awkwardly and travelled a short distance with its head in the air.  MAXSTURDY was pulled up from about the 200m.  Subsequent to the event the club veterinarian reported that following an examination of MAXSTURDY no abnormalities could be found.

Race NT 1: 1400 Metres – 9 Starters:
Approaching the first turn THE FOUR BEES, which was racing just off the fence had to be checked when tightened by FORTUNE STRIKER on its outside which was bumped by ANNOYED who in turn was tightened momentarily by NOTHING SHALL PASS who shifted in quickly.  Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned all riders in relation to the incident.  Rider of NOTHING SHALL PASS, M ALLEN explained to Stewards that she misjudged how quick her mount was shifting in and that she made an effort to straighten her mount before the interference occurred.  After viewing the Stewards patrol footage and listening to evidence given by all riders involved.  Stewards deemed that whilst the pressure did come from NOTHING SHALL PASS, M ALLEN did in fact make a genuine effort to straighten her mount and Stewards took no further action.

On jumping JUAN PABLO and CALL ME LUCKY bumped.  PEPPERY was slow into stride.

On jumping WHO’S MARY jumped inwards tightening GEE BEE GEE onto BRACKEN BLUE.  GIBSBORNE LAD jumped a little awkwardly.  About the 1000M BRACKEN BLUE had to ease off the heels of GEE BEE GEE which was taken in slightly by WHO’S MARY.

Race NT 5: 1200 Metres – 5 Starters:
Prior to the start of this event trainer N MOODY notified Stewards that TICA was involved in a floating incident on the way to the racecourse and requested the Veterinarian to inspect the gelding both in its stall and at the barriers.  TICA was a late scratching at the barriers at 3.56 pm on Vet’s advice.  No betting deductions were made as there was no oncourse bookmaker.  ACCURATE GUN jumped outwards bumping LADY LYN.  Subsequent to the event the club veterinarian reported to Stewards that TICA was involved in a floating incident on way to racecourse and on examination was found to have blood in offside nostril and other superficial wounds which needed no treatment.  Trainer was advised that a veterinarian examination will also be conducted when horse arrived at barriers and if blood was found in nostril on arrival the gelding will be scratched on vet’s advice.  On arrival at barriers TICA was found to have blood in its offside nostril and was subsequently scratched.  The club veterinarian also advised Stewards that she was unable to determine if nostril bleed was exercise induced or as a result from the floating incident and to monitor at subsequent races for bleeds from either nostril.

As the gates opened AKHATON jumped outwards onto THE TAILER.  Approaching the 600M mark IN ERROR was tightened for room momentarily when REGAL FARCE shifted in after being tightened by PORT PEGASUS on its outside who was losing ground and BARABBA SUN which was tightened by TRADESMAN'S CHOICE which was racing forward.  Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned all riders involved and determined that no one rider was at fault.  Stewards also reminded all riders of their obligations to keep their mounts straight.  Stewards questioned jockey S ARNOLD into the poor performance of his mount PORT PEGASUS.  Jockey ARNOLD could offer no explanation and stated that it was gone a long way from home and felt he could not run out the 2000M.  Stewards accepted jockey ARNOLD'S explanation.

V ARNOTT replaced W KERFORD who was indisposed as the rider of LIVE OUR DREAM.  On jumping RAFALDNBORT was slow into stride.  CHELLASEA reared slightly on jumping missing the start.  On returning to scale both RAFALDNBORT and IRONCAT were noted to have blood in one nostril.  After an inspection from the club veterinarian it was reported that both runners had received small superficial wounds whilst in the barriers and that no treatment was necessary.

Race NT 3: 0-63 HANDICAP 1100 Metres – 9 Starters:
J POTTER replaced W KERFORD as the rider of KARN BRO.  M HART rider of third placegetter JACKY SPLASH lodged an objection against FAVRICK being declared second placegetter alleging interference at about the 800M mark.  After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the video patrol film, Stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight.  Stewards deemed that whilst FAVRICK did shift in, the interference came from another runner to his outside.  Subsequently jockey C MOON rider of fourth placegetter VOLTERAN was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137a in that whilst riding forward he allowed his mount to roll in onto JACKY SPLASH, tightening him along the rails for about 50M before M HART had to take hold and check his mount after running out of room.  Jockey C MOON's licence to ride in races was suspended commencing midnight 3 May 2008 until and including 17 May 2008.

Approaching the 900M mark jockeys G LEFOE and M HART were dislodged from their mounts after being tightened for room along the rails and almost falling.  Subsequent to the event apprentice S SHEARGOLD was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137a in that he did not make sufficient effort to straighten his mount SHAKEYATAILFEATHER when it shifted in about the 900M mark onto SAVILLAWAY which tightened SOVEREIGN CHARM onto inside runners resulting in PIONEER PRINCE and MR MALONEY almost falling and dislodging their riders.  Apprentice SHEARGOLD was suspended from riding in races from midnight 19 April up until and including 3 May 2008.  Both G LEFOE and M HART were stood down from riding for the rest of the meeting.  Jockey A LYNCH was fined $100.00 under AR120(b) in that he excepted the ride on SAVILLAWAY in which he was found to be overweight.

On jumping THE SOLDIER was tightened for room momentarily when BEL DE FERRO jumped outwards and CALL ME LUCKY shifted in.  MIND SQUARE was slow away on jumping.  CLEVER CAT pulled up quick over the final 200M.  Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned jockey V ARNOTT into the poor performance of PERIDUKI.  Jockey ARNOTT explained that PERIDUKI had trouble rounding the home turn and did not feel comfortable at any stage.  Jockey ARNOTT also explained that she did not feel that he was hanging but more as if his body was having a problem negotiating the turn.  Stewards noted jockey ARNOTT's explanation.

Shortly after jumping S RIDLER had to take hold of MARCO LARGO when tightened by HAPPY SPOT which was rolling in and DEFECTING PLAYBOY on its inside which shifted out slightly after bumping REGAL FARCE.  PICAYUNE was under hard riding with the whip from the 1000M mark.  HAPPY SPOT pulled up quickly at the end of the race after the jockey believed it had gone lame.  A veterinarian examination immediately after the event and later when it had cooled down found no abnormalities or lameness.  Subsequent to the event REGAL FARCE had blood in its offside nostril.  Under AR53(7), prior to REGAL FARCE again racing it must work over 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.  Trainer D BATES was fined $50.00 under AR140A for presenting his runner HAPPY SPOT with the incorrect gear.  Subsequent to the event apprentice SHEARGOLD was reprimanded by Stewards under AR137a for allowing his mount HAPPY SPOT to roll in onto MARCO LARGO.  Apprentice SHEARGOLD was advised by Stewards that he must make a more genuine effort in future to straighten his mounts when rolling in.

LADY GEZABEEL was a late scratching at 2.29 pm at the barriers after kicking out whilst in the barriers and sustaining an injury to its near side hock and stifle.  On jumping SHARP FILOO and PRECIOUS MISS bumped slightly.  As the gates opened BEACONSFIELD MINER was slow away and raced ungenerously for the first 50M.  MYSTIC KNIGHTS was inclined to roll in slightly near the 200M mark.  Subsequent to the event, Stewards ordered the following alterations to the betting: all monies invested on LADY GEZABEEL to be refunded and a deduction of 8 cents for the win and place be made.  Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned Jockey T HAMMOND rider of BEACONSFIELD MINER into the geldings behaviour shortly after jumping.  Jockey T HAMMOND, explained that he felt that the norton bit was too severe for him and he fought against it for the first 50M.  BEACONSFIELD MINER's trainer K ROGERSON was of the same opinion after viewing the Stewards patrol footage.  Trainer K LAMPRECHT was fined $100.00 under AR124 for bringing his runners LADY GEZABEEL and PRECIOUS MISS late into the mounting yard.  K LAMPRECHT was also fined $50.00 under AR140A for presenting his runner PRECIOUS MISS with incorrect gear.

MOON told Stewards that after jumping away slowly, his mount felt reluctant to race throughout the entire event, and could give no real reason why he was reluctant to race, adding that the gelding seemed to have pulled up OK. Before the running of the first event jockey K. GLADWIN was stood down from riding by the Stewards acting under A.R. 81aa. Subsequent to the event jockey K. GLADWIN was charged under A.R. 81a in that after being breath tested for alcohol he returned a reading in excess of 0.02. Jockey K. GLADWIN was found guilty of the charge and his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two months up to and including 09/02/2008. K. GLADWIN was also fined the sum of $1000. As no other rider was available to replace K. GLADWIN, Stewards ordered the scratching of MISSIN’ KATE. As the gates opened OATS jumped awkwardly causing its rider to become unbalanced. BELLTAOS was fractious in the barriers. About the 200m mark BELLARI shifted in, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.

Jockey A. LYNCH replaced jockey K. GLADWIN as the rider of GOLD MAGIC. INDIANA SPIRIT was a late scratching at the barriers on Vet's advice at 2:25 pm. INDIANA SPIRIT suffered superficial lacerations to both hind legs and also threw three shoes due to becoming very fractious in the gates. Subsequent to the event, Stewards ordered the following alterations to the betting; all monies invested on INDIANA SPIRIT to be refunded and a deduction of 9 cents for the win and a deduction of 10 cents for the place to be made. On jumping ARMADEUS was slow away and lost considerable ground.

Race NT 3: 0 - 76 HANDICAP 1600 Metres – 7 Starters:
OPTIC FIT was slow into stride. DOUBLE THE FUN was inclined to lay out around the first turn. About the 1200m mark KING ACT was tightened slightly between runners causing its rider to ease. Subsequent to the event Stewards questioned jockey G. LEFOE into his ride on TAYASU SPIRIT. Jockey G. LEFOE stated to Stewards that his instructions were to let the horse relax and not to push forward. G. LEFOE also stated that he did have concerns at about the 800m mark when he realised he was back a bit too far in the race. Stewards reminded jockey G. LEFOE of his obligations of gaining a more forward position and also advised that Stewards would monitor TAYASU SPIRIT's future runs and if there was a change of riding instructions he was to notify Stewards as soon as practical.

Race NT 4: 0 - 63 HANDICAP 1100 Metres – 7 Starters:
D McINTOSH was found guilty of a charge under A.R. 87D.  The details of the charge being that when he weighed out to ride OFFHISTUCKER he was wearing a safety vest which had been modified.  D McINTOSH was suspended for a period of 2 months ending midnight 9 February 2008.  Evidence was taken from Clerk of Scales Mrs S ROEBUCK in which she stated that D McINTOSH had weighed out in a light blue safety vest and then shortly after she observed him wearing a black safety vest.  A search of the jockeys’ room found the light blue safety vest which had been modified hidden behind a mirror.

STAR SIGNS was a late scratching when no rider became available. As the gates opened MAX ON TOP reared slightly, losing ground.

SHAKEYATAILFEATHER, which was a final acceptor for this event, was scratched on Friday when it was found to be shinsore. Trainer J. HUISH notified Stewards Thursday evening that the gelding may be a doubtful starter. Shortly after jumping HEZAJOLLYGOODFELLA attempted to buck. About the 50 m mark HIGHTOU jumped the crossing and became unbalanced. MR MALONEY was inclined to lay in slightly down the straight.

STAR SIGNS drifted off the fence down the length of the straight. THE CROCODILE raced wide throughout the race and winder down the straight.
